Syria: Two Kurdish Writers Released

In July 2007, authors Mr. Ibrahim Mostafa and Mr. Adnan Sheikh Bozan were arrested in Syria. On 27 August 2007, Defend International launched an urgent action in Arabic, calling on the authorities to ensure the safety of the detainees; and to release them unless they were charged with a recognizable criminal offence. On 24 October 2007, Good news from Syria!  The two writers were released.

 

Case:

Two Kurdish writers Mr. Ibrahim Mostafa and Mr. Adnan Sheikh Bozan were arrested on 16 July 2007 by the Syrian security agencies.

 

DI Demanded:

On 27 August 2007, Defend International launched an urgent action in Arabic, calling on the Syrian authorities to ensure the safety of the detainees; to guarantee not to detain them incommunicado, and to release them unless they were charged with a recognizable criminal offence and given a fair and prompt trial.

 

Result of DI Action:

On 24 October 2007, the Syrian authorities released five detenies, among them Mr. Mostafa and Mr. Bozan.
