DI Celebrated Norwegian Women’s Suffrage Centenary
A delegation of Defend International attended the International Conference: Women, Power and Politics – The Road to Sustainable Democracy at the Radisson Blue Scandinavia Hotel on 14-15 November 2013. During this splendid ceremony that highlighted the Norwegian Women’s Suffrage Centenary, Dr. Widad, founder of Defend International, had the opportunity to meet one-on-one with Dr. Gro Harlem Brundtland, former prime minister of Norway, Dr. Shirin Ebadi, 2003 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, and Ms. Sanam Anderlini, co-founder of the International Civil Society Action Network.
Dr. Widad Advocates for Peaceful Solution to Syrian Crisis
Dr. Widad has called on the international community to assist the Syrian population in this time of need, urging “countries to help all communities in Syria so that they can engage in a constructive dialogue that would hopefully resolve the conflict peacefully, leading ultimately to reconciliation and real reforms.”
ERBIL INTERNATIONAL MARATHON FOR PEACE
Aiming to promote peace and tolerance, Defend International members coordinated and participated in Erbil International Marathon for Peace, which took place on 25 October 2013. Under the slogan “We’ll Run Together For Peace,” nearly seven thousand runners from about 55 countries attended this joint peace celebration.
