Defend International (DI) has officially launched its comprehensive Clean Cooking Solutions initiative on a global scale, prioritizing vulnerable populations across the Middle East, North Africa (MENA), and developing regions worldwide. The initiative aims to raise awareness among women and girls about the severe health risks associated with inefficient cookstoves and traditional fuels. As a proud partner of the Global Alliance for Clean Cooking—a United Nations Foundation initiative driving global adoption of clean cooking technologies—DI is currently welcoming sponsorships to support this vital campaign.
The inclusive, collaborative campaign focuses on several interconnected objectives:
- Promotional Coordination: Leading local, regional and global activities to advocate for and promote clean cookstoves.
- Information Exchange: Creating a collaborative platform for DI members and stakeholders to share insights, project updates, and clean fuel alternatives.
- Safety & Data Collection: Gathering data on the frequency and causes of cookstove-related burns and injuries to test and refine existing safety protocols.
- Capacity Building: Offering training courses and field evaluations to measure the positive impacts of cleaner cooking solutions.
- Strategic Partnerships: Bridging connections between environmental, health, and human rights organizations, specifically targeting groups focused on women’s rights and ending violence against women and girls.
- Resource Development: Creating scalable tools that stakeholders can replicate to economically empower women and accelerate the clean fuel market.
