Ms. Jihan Omar is in critical health condition and has began a hunger strike.

Defend International has received reports from DI Defenders in Syria outlining the reasons for Jihan Omar’s hunger strike. She is protesting the prison conditions and the cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment she has been subjected to. She is now detained in Damasscus prison, and she says she will continue her hunger strike.

Defend International considers Jihan Omar a prisoner of conscience, detained solely for the peaceful expression of her opinions. Defend International has launched a campaign calling for her release. Our members and supporters are sending appeals to the Syrian authorities to save the life of Ms. Jihan Omar.
