Gun violence kills more than 350,000 people a year, and severely injures more than a million. Yet the global trade that fuels the epidemic of armed violence is not subject to international regulation.
From 2-8 June 2008, civil society in 70 countries around the world marked the Global Week of Action Against Gun Violence.
Global Week of Action Against Gun Violence in Ramallah
DI member organisation: Human Rights & Democratic Participation Centre “SHAMS” based in Ramallah held five open meetings in five Palestinian universities and colleges. Students and student networks were invited to participate.
The discussion and dialogue focused on the phenomenon of the use of small arms and how to identify ways to respond to the proliferation and misuse of small arms and light weapons in a more coherent and coordinated manner.
