On 26 June 2022, Dr. Widad Akreyi, co-founder of Defend International, issued a statement denouncing the shooting incident at a club in Oslo, where a gunman opened fire, leading to the tragic loss of two lives. The statement reads:

“We are experiencing it again: We are grieving the victims of yet another cruel act of gun violence. This time in Oslo. Our thoughts go out to the families and friends of the victims. Our hearts are with the Norwegian nation.

“Acts of domestic terrorism harm us all. They are as corrosive to the very fabric of humanity as they are physically horrifying and morally abhorrent. No matter in which part of the world they may occur, we must call them out and condemn them.

“But it is not possible to do so unless we denounce the ideology that fuel them. We must never tolerate it. The scourge of violence must come to an end. We say no to terror, no to murder.

“We must work tirelessly, day and night, to make sure our communities are protected from intrinsically evil actions.”
