DI Celebrates International Peace Day 2013

Marking World Peace Day 2013, DI raised awareness by, in the name of peace, joining artists and sending strong messages that combine peace, creativity, growth, justice, courage, and commitment.

Together, we will build a world, in which peace thrive.

DI Celebrates International Peace Day 2013

On the occasion of the International Day of Peace, 21 September, and as part of Defend International’s commitment to support art that promote positive changes in our world, DI celebrated the humanism that underpins DI’s work and vision by joining a group of artists in Oslo and organizing events, workshops, walks and roundtables across the MENA region. Inspired by their performance, DI members sent several strong messages. Among the emphasized messages during this celebration of peace are these three:

* To achieve peace, it is crucial to eliminate unnecessary bureaucracy that prevents peace processes from advancing.

* Unnecessary bureaucracy hinders creativity, growth, justice and the attainment of peace.

* Peace may be hard to achieve, but is possible with small yet essential steps that are guided by courage and sufficient commitment.

Defend International is committed to reduce (armed) violence around the world. Ahead of the International Peace Day, DI members worked hard to spread the word and encouraged friends and colleagues to joint the Peace One Day campaign to institutionalize Peace Day 21 September. In addition, DI defenders and friends have been lobbying, building coalitions and facilitating regional and global advocacy.
