A child suffering from leukaemia wasn’t able to receive proper treatment in Iraq. Defend International contacted His Majesty in Jordan and asked for his help, and thanks to Jordan’s generosity she is now on the road to recovering. In a formal letter, Dr. Widad Akreyi extended her heartfelt thanks to His majesty King Abdullah II.
Defend International co-founder Dr Widad was invited as a gust speaker to an event held at Falster Hotel by Rotary International in Denmark. She talked about violations of human rights in Iraq under the previous regime and drew attention to the importance of upholding and complying with human rights and fundamental freedoms.
Co-founder of Defend International, Dr Widad, attended the 52nd session of the Commission on the Status of Women, held at United Nations Headquarters in New York, from 25 February to 7 March 2008. DI is committed to gender equality, women’s empowerment and human rights, and therefore DI representatives joined thousands of other attendees from around the globe.
Defend International warmly welcomes Australia’s recent apology to its indigenous peoples for the pain and indignity they endured under the Government’s past laws and policies. DI hopes this initiative will rekindle respect and recognition of Indigenous rights.
Defend International participated in Mr. Al Gore’s acceptance ceremony of the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo. DI advisor was among the 1.000 people in the audience, featuring government officials, royalty, high-ranking international personalities and movie stars.
