DI member organisation: Human Rights & Democratic Participation Centre “SHAMS” based in Ramallah is organising open meetings in five Palestinian universities and colleges.
During a press conference organised by Defend International at the European Parliament on 2 June 2008, an expert panel consisting of academicians asked the European countries to delist the Kurdistan Workers Party from the list of terrorist organisations and give peace a chance. The panel consisted of Dr. Widad (chair), associate Professor Kariane Westrheim, Professor Michael Gunter and former Director of medico International Hans Branscheidt! “Our main message is that dialogue and reconciliation at all levels of the society should be encouraged in Turkey to ultimately foster a peaceful and an inclusive society,” said Dr. Widad.

Next week civil society in Norway and Denmark will join 70 countries around the world to mark the Global Week of Action Against Gun Violence. Defend International is calling on national leaders to push for a strong and effective Arms Trade Treaty through the United Nations.
